Balham is an affluent and vibrant neighbourhood in south London, England. This area is located in the London Borough of Wandsworth. It has developed in the Domesday Book as Belgeham and settled since Saxon times. Today it has a growing shopping area in London and a diverse population. In its name “Balham” the “Bal” refers to the circular enclosure, and “Ham” refers to a homestead, river or village enclosure. This place has a very significant history. It is recorded in various maps in the 1600s as Balham Manor, Balham Hill, and Ballam. Most developments happened after the opening of the railway station of Balham on the line to crystal palace in 1856.
