Balham

Balham is an affluent and vibrant neighbourhood in south London, England. This area is located in the London Borough of Wandsworth. It has developed in the Domesday Book as Belgeham and settled since Saxon times. Today it has a growing shopping area in London and a diverse population. As well as it has excellent travel links across London through its London Underground Station.

In its name “Balham” the “Bal” refers to the circular enclosure, and “Ham” refers to a homestead, river or village enclosure. This place has a very significant history. It is recorded in various maps in the 1600s as Balham Manor, Balham Hill, and Ballam. Most developments happened after the opening of the railway station of Balham on the line to crystal palace in 1856.

Transportation:

Balham station is an interchange between Underground and rail services, in London fare zone 3. The stations connect the Balham to both the West End and the City of London. On the Northern Line Balham is one of the underground stations. Clapham South Underground station is also located in the Balham. It is lying precisely at the meeting point of Balham, Battersea, and Clapham. Current bus routes provide services in the area are as 155, 249, 315, 255, 355 and N155.
