Surbiton is located within the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames. The town is situated 11 miles south-west of Charing Cross and next to the River Thames.
During the Industrial Revolution, the town founded initially been as Kingston-Upon-Railway. Surbiton contains a mixture of grand 19th-century Art Deco courts and townhouses. It also includes more recent residential blocks mixing in with semi-detached of 20th-century housing estates.
Surbiton is part of the old county of Surrey. However, since 1965 it has been part of Greater London for administrative purposes. Surbiton includes four of the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames wards. These are Berrylands, Alexandra, Surbiton Hill, and St. Mark’s.
